How to Hang a Wall Tapestry

Tapestry wall setups don’t have to be complicated. All you need is your tapestry, a few simple tools, and this guide.

Whether you’re adding a pop of color to your bedroom, creating a textured focal point in your living room, or styling a gallery wall, we’ll show you how to hang your tapestry with ease.

Option 1: Wall Tacks

For a more modern look, you can use pewter, brass, or black heavy-duty wall tacks to secure your tapestry directly to the wall. Don’t worry, the small holes won’t damage your tapestry.

1. Position your tapestry

Hold the tapestry against the wall and adjust it until it’s centered and level.

2. Secure the top corners

Insert wall tacks into the top corners to hold the tapestry in place.

3. Add additional tacks

Place at least three tacks along the top and three along the bottom to keep the tapestry secure. For larger tapestries, use eight tacks total for extra support.

4. Adjust & smooth

Gently smooth the fabric and make any small adjustments so the tapestry hangs evenly.

Option 2: wood Clamps

A simple, modern way to display your tapestry. Wooden clamps hold the fabric securely without puncturing it.

1. Position your tapestry

Hold the tapestry against the wall and decide where you want the clamps placed.

2. Attach the top clamps

Clip two to three clamps along the top edge of the tapestry.

3. Mount the top clamps

Secure the clamps to the wall using screws. Use 2-3 wall clamps on the top depending on how taunt you want it.

4. Add bottom clamps (optional)

Attach two to three clamps along the bottom edge if you want the tapestry to hang more taut and structured.

Option 3: Tapestry Rod

The tried and true way, tapestry rod's easily slide into the rod pockets in the back of your wall hanging.

1. Insert the Rod

Slide the tapestry rod through the rod pocket on the back of the tapestry.

2. Mark your placement

Hold the tapestry against the wall and mark where the rod brackets will go.

3. Install the brackets

Secure the rod brackets to the wall using screws and anchors if needed.

4. Hang your tapestry

Place the rod onto the brackets and adjust the tapestry so it hangs evenly.
